Often, the cost basis listed on the Form 1099-B is incorrect as it does not reflect the discount reported as income on your W-2 form in the year the stock vested. The exercise in TurboTax is necessary to insure that you report the correct cost basis for the shares sold. If you are sure the cost basis is correct on your 1099-B form, or you know the correct cost basis, you can indicate that in TurboTax and you don't have to enter any other information. On the screen that says Enter your cost basis to ensure your best outcome, choose the I found my cost basis option and enter the cost basis:
