Get your taxes done using TurboTax
If that's the case, it's a new bug introduced, as I have the same situation last year (no single item that's >$250, but total donation a day, some were >$5000), and probably the year before, it never asked for Donee signature and I was able to e-file. the $5000 applies to organization donation of similar items.
The response from Turbo Tax is that there is a new rule by IRS. However, after I spent hours on IRS website and 8232 instructions, I don't think the rule has changed. "The donee organization that received the property described in Part I of Section B must complete and sign the Donee Acknowledgment in Part V." Above does not fit any in Part I of Section B. Only situations fit in Part 1 of Section B requires Donee to sign the acknowledge form. In the cases of most people on this thread that suddenly not able to do e-file, the Donee is not even required to sign the form for us.
Also, under IRS website for 8232 form, what's new: "filers submitting Form 8283 reporting a noncash charitable contribution of more than $5,000 to fully complete Section B." the requirement is to complete section B. Doesn't necessarily mean you have to fill the area that your situation doesn't apply, including the signatures that are not needed. I think this may be what Turbo Tax introduced this year. It lump all items in a house hold as 1 line. If it separates clothes, footwear, furniture, cook ware (pans, air fryer, microwave) maybe computer & some other stuff as equipment, etc. into different lines, then for me, each line will be much less than $5000. Or if Turbo Tax can provide an option to add lines of description of donated property (it says if you need more space, attach a separate attachment), that's will also avoid this.
Problem for most people is that we try to get all the stuff we want to donate into a big load at the end of the year so that we can drove to the donation places less. Then we only get 1 receipt for all the items we donate. I even borrowed a van or truck when I have a lot of stuff especially furniture to donate. Before COVID, I can leave them on my drive way, and put a flyer for the donation truck to pick up that day. After COVID, I have to drove to donation places.
