I work and pay taxes in Taiwan. Should I be double taxed?
Hello. In 2024, I worked in both America and in Taiwan. I am an American citizen. I know I do not qualify for the FEIE because I was in America last year. I pay a lot of taxes in Taiwan. I just heard about how tax treaties can avoid overseas workers from being double taxed. I already filed my US taxes and paid a lot for my foreign earned income. Should I have not reported this income, because of the tax treaty?
The Taiwanese Ministry of Finance said in March that the American Double-Tax Relief treaty has been sent to the Senate. After that Taiwan will also have legal procedures. So it sounds like maybe the treaty isn't even finalized yet...?
I just don't want to have paid a lot of extra money in American taxes, if it could have been avoided, but I'm not sure where to verify this information. Thank you for any help.
