Regressive changes to 2024 version of desktop version
Last things first. I did a review of my tax forms and fixed everything that was flagged as a problem. When I tried to file electronically, there were half a dozen 1099-DIV forms that needed Payer IDs to be entered before the tax forms could be e-Filed. How did these tax forms get through the review process when the e-Filing process picked up more things that needed to be fixed? Everything that needed to be fixed should have been caught in the review process. Some bug in the program design, or a bug in the programming itself managed to get into the production version.
Entering 1099s was a nightmare. Instead of a nice table of 1099s for various types, ie DIV and INT, or B, theres a multi page length display of text and graphic boxes for each 1099 from the previous year that requires lots of scrolling because only 2 or 3 items can fit on the screen at one time. Then selecting something to enter goes to the import screen, and if you are entering manually, skipping imports takes you back to another screen where you have to select 1099-DIV again as an example. Why would the designer do such a thing? The first time you get to an import screen, there should be a button to turn off the import screen and go directly to a manual input screen. The manual input screen should have a button top go back to an import screen. And why doesn't the program remember that you were trying to update a 1099-DIV after it leaves the import screen?
Last year's version you could see a list of all the various types of 1099s when you needed to edit them. That version worked just fine, and easily allowed me to see which 1099s had been entered, and which had not been. This year's version is just a mess.
