Get your taxes done using TurboTax

I think you may be looking at a confusing summary screen in Online TurboTax that shows what you will have left after those 3 transactions occur.  In other words, it shows a net figure of the amount left in your pocket.  That is not really a refund amount.   Does the following explain it?

-1164  that you have to pay to Federal for taxes owed

-679    that you have to pay to non-resident state for taxes owed

+2369  money received from resident state refund

When you add those 3 transactions up, the total is $526, which is the NET amount you have in your pocket at the end of the day.    The $526 is not a refund amount; it's simply how you come out overall considering the state refund and the 2 tax payments.   Does that explain what you are seeing on that screen?

By the way, the taxes owed cannot be paid out of a state refund, so I assume you are making arrangements on your own to pay the Federal tax owed and the non-resident state tax owed.
