Get your taxes done using TurboTax

You're right.   It is too late ๐Ÿ™‚   I already wrote the direct navigation steps, so here are 2 methods that may help someone in Online TurboTax.  However, these are actually for ONLINE TurboTax, and I just noticed you are using desktop TurboTax.   Well, I'll follow up with the desktop method for good measure in another comment.  ๐Ÿ™‚   I realize you no longer need it, since you used Forms Mode instead.     I guess I should go to bed, too!

For Online TurboTax I can tell you where a state "applied overpayment" from 2023 is entered in the program (or autopopulates if you transferred from last year) so you can confirm it is correct.   Surprisingly, even for state applied overpayment, it's done on the Federal side.   See if you can use this shortcut:

  • Open your return interview, and in the top right corner click the Search icon (magnifying glass.)
  • In the search box enter applied overpayment without quotes.   When entering disregard any of the dropdown suggestions.   Instead click the adjacent magnifying glass that's inside the search box.
  • You should get a blue link Jump to applied overpayment.  Click that.
  • Next screen is Estimates and Other Income Taxes Paid.
  • Scroll way down that list almost to the last category and find 2023 Refund Applied to 2024.  Click the little arrowhead to expand and see the subtopics.
  • Then choose the type of applied overpayment to report, such as, 2023 refund applied to 2024 state taxes, if that's your situation, and click Start or Revisit.
  • Then continue answering the screens about your applied overpayment.

If you can't get to it using that "jump to" method, here's an alternate navigation:

  • Go to the left menu column and click on Tax Tools, then subtab Tools.
  • In the Tools center click on blue button Topic Search.
  • In the search line enter applied overpayment without quotes, make the selection in the list for same term, and click GO.
  • Continue with the last 4 bullet points in the first method I gave above.
