The IRS limits the number of e-filed federal tax returns to five per tax software license. See requirement number 5 on page 31 of this IRS Publication: IRS Pub 1345. The IRS requires that software developers ensure there is no more than 5 electronic files from one software package or from one email address.
If you need to file more than five returns, you can:
- Print and Mail: You can use the software to prepare additional returns but you cannot e-file them. : You can print additional returns and mail them to the IRS. There’s no limit on the number of returns you can mail
- Use Different Software: Consider using TurboTax online, or purchasing another TurboTax desktop software.
