Get your taxes done using TurboTax
There could be several reasons why your tax refund hasn't arrived.
If you file a complete and accurate paper tax return, your refund should be issued in about six to eight weeks from the date IRS receives your return. If you file your return electronically, your refund should be issued in less than three weeks,
Here are some steps to check its refund status and understand some common delays:
IRS "Where's My Refund?" Tool: You can check the status of your refund online using the IRS Where's My Refund? tool.
- You'll need your Social Security number, filing status, and the exact refund amount. The tool updates daily and shows your refund's progress in three phases: Return Received, Refund Approved, and Refund Sent
Common Reasons for Delays:
- If your tax return has errors or is missing required forms, the IRS may need additional time to process it. Common mistakes include incorrect Social Security numbers, math errors, or missing signatures.
- Manual Review: Sometimes, the IRS needs to manually review your return, especially if there are discrepancies between the information you provided and the documents they received.
