I'm confused; some experts here are saying the ESPP discount amount is reported in W-2 for the year of purchase, but other experts are saying discount is reported in W-2 for the year of sale.
My W-2 for tax year 2024 reports ESPQD amount in box 14 and box 1. But I left the company in 2023, so clearly 2024 is not the year I purchased any ESPP shares.
