Lots of bugs in TurboTax Premier 2024 + need an assist re: electronically paying state quarterly estimated taxes
Came back to TurboTax because unfortunately the product I used last year was generally less helpful. It was, however, a lot less buggy.
Problems I've encountered this year include:
The dollar amount displayed next to Dividends is woefully incorrect. Clicking on that hyperlink, however, shows the correct dollar amount. No way to fix that. Fortunately, the correct number shows on the PDF and so I assume is the number that goes to the IRS and state.
A variety of other errors that I had to resolve by entering the information directly into forms, rather than walk-me-through option.
Somewhere near the end of the state return process, it asked if I wanted to do quarterly tax estimates through the app. At no point did it say that this was the ONLY option if I wanted to do it electronically, so I skipped it, thinking I could probably do it through my state tax website like I can do it separately for federal estimated taxes. I expected that, as in years past, the pdf that gets generated would create the "paper" forms for filing estimated state taxes and the amount. Well, it turns out that didn't happen (no such forms generated) and that my state does not provide an option to pay those online and if I wanted to pay electronically, I needed to use TurboTax or other such software. I discovered all of this AFTER I submitted/filed my taxes.
I tried to then go back into my return to see if maybe I could do this after having filed, since this is really a SEPARATE process from filing annual taxes. NOPE. And on top of that, the state return is now MISSING some of the data that was previously entered and saved, such as Total Tax and Total Credits from 2023, and the calculated late charge for not doing quarterly payments last year. And those fields were previously entered manually by me because TurboTax, despite advertisements claiming otherwise, FAILED to import the data from the tax return I did last year using a different vendor's product (H&R Block).
The reason I tried to use a different product last year is because of the many, many bugs in the 2022 product that resulted in the IRS charging me penalties for errors caused by the product - and Intuit/TurboTax REFUSED to honor the advertised guarantee and chose instead to blame me, the user, for the errors. The errors were demonstrably caused by the product. Unfortunately, unless I decide going forward to hand this all off to an accountant, I'm stuck using this constantly buggy product with a meaningless guarantee.
Hoping some experts out there know a way to still have TurboTax (Premier) set up electronic estimated payments to my state and can perhaps explain why the product "forgot" some of the data I previously entered and saved (more than once) prior to submitting the taxes to the IRS and to my state.
