What form are you referring to? I looked at printouts of my Form 1040 for the last 7-8 years. The IRS made a change on the Form 1040 starting in tax year 2020. Prior to 2020, in the address section at the top of the Form 1040, the city/state/zip code were all shown together on one line, and the zip code contained a hyphen. However, starting in 2020, the IRS began putting a dedicated zip code box on the Form 1040, and when they did that, my zip code on the 2020 Form 1040 for that year and all subsequent years have all had 9 numbers with no hyphen. This is true even when I have a hyphen in the zip-code on the Federal Information Worksheet. My returns were prepared in desktop TurboTax, but I suspect this is true for everyone who prints out a Form 1040.
