Re: Filed on web for free but premium fees talen out of my return . . .

initially, I began at the  irs site. Turbo tax was listed as  one of the options to file free. My situation was very similar to yours. My return was incredibly simple & I didn’t need any extra assistance or “Expert” help.

This reminds me of a similar trick H&R Block used to pull. Essentially you are really paying attention to what you are doing and reading everything as you are doing your return. Not to mention, I have been around the block and was paying extra close attention hoping to avoid being charged for all this crap that not only did I not want use or need, I didn’t agree to it upfront. But it gave me no other option other than to pay in order to proceed.

Then options like get your return 5days sooner,,,,

In all seriousness, I did my taxes myself. Why would you opt for an expert if you’re finished with your tax return?

$150+ down the drain

less than transparent and I have an accounting degree and was highly involved with doing taxes for a number of years. I just thought well if the IRS is providing these programs as a free service, I would like to use a program because most will ask questions about an individual’s situation such that you will know exactly what forms are needed to complete your return. In my case, I was a little confused about my marketplace healthcare plan that I purchased.

Sadly I wound up having to figure that out myself and well I was not given any other option to efile without electing the pro service

despite having turned it down from the beginning!
