To report the ordinary income portion of your ESPP sale in TurboTax, follow these steps:
If reported on your W-2:
- Enter your W-2 form details in TurboTax. The ordinary income will be included in box 1 and may have a reference in box 14. It won't be subject to social security tax, so it won't appear in box 3.
If not reported on your W-2:
- Go to the Income section in TurboTax.
- Click on Add Income.
- Navigate to Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C.
- Click Add and then Start.
- Scroll down and select Other Reportable Income.
- Answer Yes to any other taxable income.
