Digital Assets
Hi,
Last year, I sold some mutual funds in a Roth IRA. While I understand that gains from investment sales in retirement accounts are tax-free (unless withdrawn before age 59.5 and the retirement account was held for less than 5 years), I see on my tax form a question about Digital Assets. The question goes like this:
"At any time during 2024, did you: (a) receive (as a reward, award, or payment for property or services); or (b) sell, exchange, or otherwise dispose of a digital asset (or a financial interest in a digital asset)?"
From my understanding, it looks like it's cryptocurrency assets, but I can't help but wonder if it also refers to mutual funds, ETFs, bonds and stocks.
The mutual funds I sold were not cryptocurrency related. One of them was an S&P 500 index fund, another was a real estate income fund and the last one was a construction and housing fund.
I would appreciate any insight into this question as it applies to my situation.
Thanks!
