premium insurance credit
Hi there. I have a question I can't find anything similar. Appreciate the help.
In 2024 I was working my normal job and on the side opened a telehealth medicine practice in the hopes of leaving my normal job (because it's awful, whole different story). I saw pts on my days off, etc. I lost insurance after I quit the normal job October 31, 2024. I applied to the marketplace for myself, spouse and children (5). I guessed at income because honestly I had been so busy I hadn't even been paying attention.
Issue: I applied for coverage and asked for Nov 1, 2024. My younger children had been on medicaid as a secondary. When I applied for coverage New Mexico's marketplace said we would get a free month due to losing medicaid for some members (my younger two now have straight medicaid, rest on marketplace). I ended up making more than I thought (lots of reasons). I did not know the free month was backdated to October 1, 2024 (which I absolutely DID NOT need) until end of November. I notified them I didn't need October coverage because I already had it. They basically said too bad it's free. Cool, whatever.
Enter the problem: due to my income I have to pay back subsidy payments, fine. EXCEPT THEY WANT ME TO PAY BACK OCTOBER THAT I DIDN'T EVEN WANT OR NEED!!! This is ridiculous. I didn't ask for it and didn't want it. Is there a way around this????
Thank you
