Got married and changed from ACA to spouses health insurance, any way to avoid paying back due to higher total income?

Hi, I am helping my son do his taxes.  He got married in June 2024 and his wife makes more than him.  She added him to her work health insurance plan so he then cancelled his ACA insurance.  Will this force him to file married but separately?  I know that there are downsides to both MFS and MFJ in this situation and was just wondering if there are any other options.  Unless everyone gets married in January, I don't see why 99180125#there isn't a way to mitigate the change from being a single filer with ACA to married with joint income that forces payback of ACA funds.

Thanks for any input.
