Get your taxes done using TurboTax
When importing, make sure TurboTax and Windows or your Mac operating system are both updated, and temporarily disable all anti-virus software (including modem). Some users reported that disabling security software solved the issue. You might also try restarting your device, and using a different browser (Chrome generally works well).
There are a few ways you can add your W-2 to your tax return in TurboTax:
- Import it instantly from your employer
- W-2s are released by different employers on different dates. You might have to wait until February for yours to be available for import.
- Upload it from your computer
- Snap a photo of it with your phone
- Type it in manually
To import your W-2:
- We need the Box 1 amount from your W-2 or the year-to-date (YTD) gross income from your year-end pay stub.
- In some cases, we may need the Box d Control Number from your W-2, but only if your payroll provider requires it.
See this help article for more information.
To enter your W-2 in TurboTax Online:
First, choose Wages & Income from the menu, then select Wages and Salaries (W-2). Then:
- Click Add a W-2 for (name)
- Enter the employer's ID number
- Click Continue
- On the screen that asks, "How would you like to add your W-2?", look for the button that says "Type it in myself" and click.
- The next screen will provide entry fields where you can type in the information from your W-2.
See this tax tips article for more information regarding Form W-2.
