To successfully add the $5,000 deduction for Voluntary Retrofitting Residential Structure, you will have to complete your return in TurboTax Desktop. If you are currently using TurboTax Online, click here for instructions on switching your product. 

Once in TurboTax Desktop, please follow the instructions below:

1. Open your state return in Forms mode at the top right of the page.
2. Click on Open Form on the left side of your screen. 
3. Search Form 540. Expand the options for Form 540 for LA.
4. Click on Res Schedules: Resident Schedules C,D,E,F,I & J. Open Form.
5. On the Resident Schedules form, scroll down to Schedule E, Line 4a.
6. Enter code 16E and the $5,000 amount.
7. This credit will flow to your 540 and you do not need to attach any other forms to your return.
