Are U.S. Treasury notes and bonds accrued market discounts taxable in Wisconsin if the notes/bonds were held to maturity
Hello All,
I have accrued market discounts (AMDs) generated from U.S. Treasury notes and bonds that I held to maturity. I purchased the U.S. Treasury notes and bonds at a discount in the secondary market a various time over the past 3 years so some of the accrued market discounts are short term and some are long term. I know the AMDs are fully taxable as interest income at the federal level, but are the AMDs taxable in Wisconsin? I consider the AMDs interest income from Treasury securities, which is tax exempt in Wisconsin. But, I've read some threads on the TT community board that makes me wonder. I've searched Wisconsin's DOR web site but that's useless. Thank you to whoever can give me a clear answer. Best.
