Get your taxes done using TurboTax
I totally agree with you. Though I have used TurboTax (Premium) for several years now, I was appalled at how this year's Dividends & Interest entry screens were implemented. Extremely convoluted and unnecessarily time-consuming. Then, when I tried to enter my RMD information, I was even more frustrated. Basic tax code allows you to meet you RMD obligations from any or all of your tax-deferred accounts. TurboTax didn't provide for a way to accurately or easily report this info. I had to call their Tech Support for help. The Support person was excellent, but the call still took her a half hour figuring out a solution. But the solution was a "kluge" - a clunky work-around to something that has been standard tax law for years. Finally, I live in Washington State which has no state income tax. In the past, TurboTax recognized early on in the process that I don't need to complete a State return. This year, I had to specify several times that "NO", I don't need to complete a state return. By the time I was almost ready to e-file my return, I decided I no longer had enough confidence in TurboTax to do so. So I purchased their (much less expensive) competitor's tax software. It was worth every penny. And the problems I had with TurboTax were non-existent and I completed and filed my return in a much-shorter period of time. I plan to stick with that competitor's tax software going forward. Very disappointed with TurboTax.
