Ah, so you don't see a lower HSA contribution limit. Look at form 8889 on line 3. Does it say $8,300?

 

What is in line 2 on the 8889? Is it a number like $450? This is the amount of carryover of excess contributions from a previous year. Or if the $4,500 was contributed directly to your HSA (not through your employer), then maybe the number is $4,950 ($4,500 plus $450).

 

So although you think that you did not contribute it, it was carried over from a previous year and treated as a personal contribution (i.e., line 2).

 

Is this is not it, come back and we'll talk about it some more. But be assured that your software is up to date.
