For the date your tax home was established, you can use your date of birth. If you lived abroad at least 330 days of a 365 day period OR you were a "bona fide resident" of the other country, you likely qualify for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion.
However, you will also need to adjust the income and tax on Form 1116 if you are combining the exclusion with tax credits. You cannot take tax credits on the portion of income that is excluded.
