HSA contribution and Medicare 6 months backward enrollment in part A
Hello,
I was covered by a High Deductible Health plan in 2024 (from Jan to Dec).
I also contributed the maximum allowed into a HSA from Jan to October.
In October I was laid off and had to apply for Medicare from Jan 01, 2025.
Medicare approved my application for Part B from Jan 1, 2025, but added Part A starting from April 1, 2024. Is this a common practice for Medicare ?
I am preparing my taxes using TT and it states that I have an excess contribution (the amounts that were deposited to my HSA from April till October).
Is that correct ?
Is there any way to move the start date of Medicare Part A to later in 2024 or even Jan 1, 2025 (when Part B starts) ?
Thank you very much in advance !
