Get your taxes done using TurboTax
If the amount you were paid was $400 or more, you must report that as Self-Employment income on Schedule C. If the amount was less than $400 you can report it as "other income". To report it as self-employment income:
- Make sure you are logged in and working in your return
- Select Income
- Select Self-Employment
- Answer "Yes" to the question "Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?"
- Give a description of the work you did
Continue through the questions to report your income.
To report as "other income":
- Click on "Tax Tools" on the far left of your screen *
- Click on "Tools"
- Click on "Topic Search"
- Type in "Other Reportable Income"
- Answer "No" to "Did you receive any other wages?"
- On the next screen with "Let's Work on Any Miscellaneous Income", scroll to the bottom of the page
- Next to "Other Reportable Income" click on Start
- Enter a description and the amount and click on Continue
Your "other income" will appear on Form 1040 Schedule 1, Line 8z and will flow to Form 1040 Line 8.
* If you don't see "Tax Tools" on your screen, click on any of the entry sections (e.g. Income, W-2) and then click on "start" or the pencil icon"
