Get your taxes done using TurboTax
After multiple calls to TT Help, I've still received no solutions to my duplicate 1099-DIV issue. I have however found two work-arounds. The problem is if your Mutual Fund firm doesn't issue consolidated 1099-DIV statements (which most of mine don't), you end up getting a statement where each fund is listed as a separate line item. TT file import doesn't know how to handle this so you have to enter each fund separately and manually. For years I've just been creating separate entries for these line items and had no problems. Unfortunately there's a new bug in TT where if you put in more than one or two line items from a single company, TT interprets this as a duplicate 1099 and gives you an error. Here are my two work-arounds:
1- Create your own consolidated statement. It just requires more work and some calculations.
2 - Create semi fictitious names for your brokerage fund accounts so TT doesn't think they are duplicates
Example: Fidelity A, Fideliti B
The fact that I have to do this is ridiculous. Why does TT care if I have multiple statements from the same company.
