The personal representative of the estate would be responsible for filing the final tax return. If such a person isn't legally appointed, then the individual who is in charge of the deceased individual's property would be the default personal representative. If that applies to you, you would be responsible for filing the return and paying any tax due, but just from the funds in the estate, not from your personal funds.
