Get your taxes done using TurboTax

In Minnesota, if your ‌discharged education loans weren't taxed by the federal government, they aren't taxed on your Minnesota return. You don't need to make an adjustment.‌ You can only subtract qualified education loans discharged that are taxable federally. ‌Per the Minnesota Department of Revenue the types of discharged student loans that may qualify include‌:

  • Minnesota Teacher Shortage Loan Repayment Program
  • Income-based repayment plans
  • Income-contingent repayment plans
  • Pay As You Earn (PAYE) or Revised Pay As You Earn (REPAYE) programs
