Thank you Bill for giving me an idea of how to check this. I think it was a memory issue on my computer. The totals were showing up where you thought they should. The problem was that I was changing the totals and it did not affect the refund numbers at the top of the screen (or affect the totals on the 1040). After closing down TT and re-opening everything worked as expected.
