Get your taxes done using TurboTax
Welp, Here I am in January 2025 and guess what!? I forgot my 2024 RMD!
1) I already filled out the f5329 and composed the letter, etc. My question is WHEN do I send it? Do I file (aka mail) this form in NOW, or wait until I file my 2024 taxes? (Or send now AND attach it to 2024 taxes?)
2) If I AM to mail it now, do I mail it to the regular 1040 address I would use if I was mailing my entire return and not enclosing a payment. (I'm in AZ, so that would be an address in Austin.)
3) Looking to the future, in regards to 1099-Rs:
a) I understand I will NOT get a 2024 1099-R, because I was indeed 2 days late in take this RMD. (Correct?)
b) Secondly, how will my 2025 1099-Rs work? Will I get one for 2025 that includes this late taken 2024 RMD PLUS the 2025 that I take? Will that show as an EXCESS distribution and is there an associated penalty for THAT? (This is an inherited IRA, and I am 56 years old.) Any insight into what 2025 will look like, and anything I will need to do, would be most helpful.
Thank you!
