It’s mostly personal preference as to whether
you prefer the increased functionality of the desktop program (such as Forms
Mode) or if you prefer the convenience of the online (i.e being able to work on
your return anywhere and having TurboTax store your files).
If you are going to prepare more than one return
(for your children, for example) you should purchase the desktop version, so
you won’t be charged for each return. Also, all the desktop versions
contain the same forms. The difference is the amount of guidance.
With TurboTax Online, you can start with the
Basic edition, and if your return requires additional forms you can upgrade
right in your return.
