Get your taxes done using TurboTax
I was having the same issue. I would click on the Transfer button and it would say reading file info and then come back to the same screen as if you had not clicked on the transfer button. In troubleshooting this I pulled up 2023 Turbo Tax and it went through the updates. I then tried to open my 2023 Tax Return and got an error that it was an invalid file. Luckily I had the '~' backup file from a few days earlier which it was able to open. Only difference in the two files was checking the efile status. I did an online status check with the older file and re-saved the file. Then used that file to import into 2024 and all is well.
Bottom-line (at least for me) is that 2024 Turbo Tax and the updated 2023 Turbo Tax thought my file was corrupted. I tried some backups of that same exact file with the same result. I filed on Feb 2nd 2024 (date of the file) and I suspect the file format might have changed slightly which was causing the issue.
As a minimum, 2024 Turbo Tax should give an invalid file error when attempted to transfer a 2023 file it doesn't understand versus performing a silent error and going back to the previous screen as it did for me.
