What specific deduction is making TurboTax tell you to upgrade?
You are not required to use itemized deductions unless you are filing as married filing separately and your spouse itemizes. If an itemized deduction is making TurboTax require you to upgrade, don't enter the deduction, or delete it if you have already entered it.
If you are filing as married filing separately and your spouse itemizes, then you have to use itemized deductions. In that case you have to upgrade because you cannot claim itemized deductions in Free Edition.
