I am not an Intuit employee but have been a long time Turbo Tax user (80's); I admit that I am not an Apple person & will defer to you and your experience with Intuit.
With respect to non-Apple computer hardware, there has been a push from Microsoft since 2021 for individuals to upgrade their CPU to newer generation which utilize Trusted Platform Module and enhanced encryption which improve the PC security.

I agree that Intuit, like most software/IT companies, would prefer clients/customers use on-line options. While version control and access to additional user experiences are positive, I - like many I would surmise - prefer to have as much control over my data as possible. I also agree that more and more companies will drag everyone "into the matrix" before too long.
