I just saw one of my city tax payment vouchers has a due date on 1-31-24 but I had no idea that was the case until after I filed my taxes. Will I be charged a fee or can I just explain to someone that I got no notification about the charge?
That sounds like an estimated tax payment. We don't know if not paying resulted in an underpayment of taxes. if yes, the city can impose penalties and interest. As a general note taxing authorities do not send out notices that estimated tax payments are due because they don't know if they're needed.
