Please make sure you are entering one W-2 and then adding each state in that same W-2. You cannot enter two separate W-2s for the same employer simply to add another state.
In the state ID field you select which state and then the identifying state number has some criteria that must be followed.
- No letters and no dashes.
- You can use the federal EIN if the state numbers are causing an issue. Enter the number, do not use a dash or space.
As indicated by @DawnC, there are thousands of employees who work in different states for the same employer and this functions correctly in TurboTax if the protocols noted above are used.
