Get your taxes done using TurboTax
It's self-employment income that must be entered on a Schedule C. YOU are considered the business.
Enter your 1099-NEC:
- Open your return.
- Click on Federal tab.
- Click on Wages & Income.
- Click on down arrow to right of Self-Employment Schedule C: 1099-NEC, 1099-K, expenses.
- Click on Start/Revisit to right of Self-employment income and expenses.
- Proceed thru interview screens.
Enter your name as being the owner.
Business name: e.g., Tom's Electrical Service.
Use your address.
Accounting method: Cash.
Materially participated: Yes
Business code: Please see "Principal Business or Professional Activity Codes" starting on page C-17 of the IRS' 2018 Instructions for Schedule C if you'd like to search for a more appropriate code.
Started business in 2023: Yes
Made payments that required 1099: No
And yes, the program will compute your Self-Employment taxes (you'll get a partial credit for some of that SE Tax on another line of your 1040).
