I'm sorry for your loss. You can create a return in TurboTax for your mother. Prepare the return with your mother as the taxpayer (as if
she will doing the return herself).
During the interview you will see a screen Do Any of These Apply to [your
grandmother's name]?
- Mark the
box Passed away before filing this return.
- Enter her
date of death in the box provided and click Continue.
- As you
continue through the interview TurboTax will ask you for additional
information if needed.
If you missed that screen, you can enter the information in the Personal
Info section:
- Click on
the Personal Info tab.
- Click on Edit
next to your mother's name. [See
Screenshot #1, below.]
- In section
#3, mark the box that I'm preparing this return for [mother's
name], who has passed away. [Screenshot #2]
