Another case of user (my) error/misunderstanding. Thank you for your response. The federal form 1040 isn't as clear as the MD form on whether the standard or itemized deduction was used, but you are correct. This is the first year in decades that our itemized is less than the standard.
I will look into the ramifications of choosing the itemized on the Federal so we can use it on the MD state form.
