If the income was earned in a foreign country then it is foreign earned income and you should check the box that says so. In your case the foreign income was reported on a W2 so that makes your life a little easier. When you come to this screen -
You'll check the box for 'Worked Outside the US' and then the system will walk you through whether or not you qualify for the foreign earned income exclusion.
