Quick Employer Forms (QEF):
How can I correct a Form 1099 or W-2 that has already been sent and accepted by the IRS or SSA?
QEF does not support corrected forms at this time. Once the original e-filing is accepted:
- To file a corrected 1099, use the IRS website forms and instructions for corrections.
How to file the corrected Form 1099-NEC(s) to report nonemployee compensation, when the IRS has already accepted them?
- Download and prepare one Form 1096 for the tax form(s) 1099-NEC. You do not need to correct previously filed Form 1096 for the incorrect tax Form 1099-MISC.
- Download and prepare Form 1099-NEC for each recipient filed and accepted by the IRS
- Do enter an "X" in the "CORRECTED" checkbox at the top of the form.
- Enter the recipient information (enter dollar amount in the box 1 of the Form 1099-NEC to report the nonemployee compensation)
- Mail the 1096 and 1099 COPY A's to the address listed on the 1096 form.
- Mail the corrected form to your contractor.
