Get your taxes done using TurboTax
@AmyC Thanks for commenting and sharing your previous posts. Unfortunately, this doesn't address the issue. Just to clarify, I'm only struggling with TurboTax on my daughter's return. I am not claiming her as a dependent, and she is the one trying to get the AOTC credit (instead of the LLC credit). Further, on her tax return, we have not submitted a 1099-Q. If that were to be submitted, it would be submitted on my tax return (since I am the "recipient"). All of the 1099-Q expenses are indeed qualified, so it sounds like I don't need to use it on my parent return (which makes sense to me). But I'm not struggling with the parent return. The parent return does what it needs to even if I submit the 1099-Q because I'm able to provide all my expenses and convince TurboTax that they're all qualified.
My issue is that turbo-tax correctly determines that my daughter qualifies for both the AOTC and the LLC, correctly determines that each is worth the same amount ($1,080) for her particular tax situation, but incorrectly forces her to pick the LLC when we need to pick the AOTC. The reason we need to pick the AOTC is explained in my original post. Hopefully you can still help me out with this additional clarification. Thanks!
