If you are required to file a tax return, you should report your Amazon gift card amounts (received for completing surveys) as 'Other Income'.
This differs from a 'discount', where you had to spend money to receive a gift card (or cash back %).
Obviously, if you receive a 1099 form, you need to report it.
If you are not required to file a tax return, you could choose not to report this income, but save documentation of what you received if the IRS contacts you.
Unless you earned more than the Standard Deduction, the income would not be taxable (unless reporting as Self-Employment Income over $400).
