Is it necessary to file an amended 2022 IRS return regarding the Alaska Energy Relief payment?
Did the IRS ever issue any further “guidance” for those Alaskans who filed their 2022 returns before February 10, 2023 and included the full $3284 Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend as 1099 income (which included $662 of apparently non-taxable “Alaska Energy Relief”)? Since the IRS caused this confusion by their dilatory decision, you would think that the could just automatically review early 2022 returns filed by Alaskans, correct the PFD amount and issue a refund. Do I need to go through the hassle and expense of filing an amended 2022 return to recover the excess taxes paid on the “Alaska Energy Relief” portion?
