I am a teacher who was widowed this April (2023). We filed jointly last year and have no children. I am on an unpaid leave of absence from work and will be until July 2024. I am wondering how all of this is going to play out for 2023 taxes and what I might need to do before the end of 2023 to make filing in the spring go smoothly.
