If the dependent is your qualifying child and otherwise meets the requirements to be your dependent, you can still claim your child as a dependent for 2023, even if the child has a job and earns income. Your child may need to file a tax return of his/her own, depending on how much they make or whether any taxes are withheld that can be refunded. For 2023, if a dependent earns more than $13,850 or has unearned income such as interest or dividends of more than $1,250, then they are required to file their own tax return.
If the dependent is not your qualifying child, the dependent must have gross income less than $4,700 in 2023 and meet all the other requirements of a dependent.
