Get your taxes done using TurboTax

Hi Jon - looks like you have done your research - below are further clarifications:

Beginning Jan. 1, 2023, the credit equals 30% of certain qualified expenses: Qualified energy efficiency improvements installed during the year which can include things like: Exterior doors, windows and skylights.

Skylights must meet the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria.

I recommend you check on the exact product/skylight you are purchasing to be sure it meets the qualifications:   https://www.energystar.gov/about/federal_tax_credits/windows_skylights

To qualify for the tax credit: Solar-powered fresh air skylightsFixed or manual fresh air air skylights with factory installed solar-powered shades.

Keep in mind these credits are non-refundable credits meaning that they can lower your taxes but won’t result in a refund. You may have the opportunity to roll over unused portions of tax credits to future years, allowing you to use them to reduce your future tax liability.

Have an amazing day. Evelyn M (CPA 20+ years)
