there are several reasons why updating your W-4 is a good idea. The older version relied on calculating a number of allowances that were then used to calculate your withholding amount. The new version relies on a withholding rate based on a withholding table and not on allowances.
You can use our W-4 calculator tool to calculate your W-4 numbers. Then you can print out a blank W-4 to give to your employer.
