I decided to e-file my return with the error left in place as-is and then address it later by filing an amended return. That way I will be able to explain what I’m doing in the explanation for the amended return and hopefully lower chances of an audit.
I discovered that leaving this error in place does prevent e-filing. It doesn’t come up until the very end after you hit the Transmit button, but it won’t let you e-file.
So I changed box 10 to 0 and e-filed.
