Multiple State (NY & DC) filing for married couple residing in different states.
Looking for some thoughts on this situation:
1) Married couple who physically resided in different states during 2022 (in this case NY & DC).
2) For federal filing a joint return
3) For states it would make sense to me that the person who lived and worked in DC should file a DC return where only the income in DC would be considered - and- the person who lived in NY should file a NY return where only the income in NY would be considered.
First of all is my assumption on the state taxes correct and if not how should I view this situation? And secondly how do I get that Turbotax state editions for NY and DC to do what I need done?
Thanks for any help that you can provide!
