as i understand it with online 1 return per year per account. so you could do what-ifs and then delete them before doing the final. the other way around is not possible because you'll overwrite the previous version. this is what happens to users who attempt to do a second return for say a friend or relative using their account after they have done theirs. with desktop you can do as many what-ifs as you want just save them with different names. the other thing with online is you have to pay any fees before you could review the returns
